Lots of big cities are big into colorful murals on the walls of their buildings: Lyon, Melbourne, Philadelphia, Berlin and so on.
In the small towns of Burgundy and around France, one often sees smaller, more intimate versions of the huge urban mural. Often they are painted where a window was closed up, or to spruce up a public space.
I like to collect photos of these artistic moments when I'm traveling around. So take a peek at my little musée du jour, of French wall art.

In the COMMENTS: Jane, we must try those English sandwiches. Martin has a recipe for eggs with cress. Emily, I just love the Paris mayo story! Carrie, a deconstructed egg salad is the perfect term for it. Now I must try eggs mimosa, recommended by Bonnie and Patricia. Ali, eggs meurette is a different thing altogether, and delicious.
Favorite READS: Natalia likes the historical novel, The Paris Secret, and Anne Marie recommends the historical family chronicle, The Art of Losing by Alice Zenter. And a big shout out to my great friend Rita, who introduced me to Henri, Le Chat Noir!
A special note, for anyone who's thinking of moving to France: our reader Beverly, an American living in Charleston, is selling her charming little townhouse in Brantôme, in the southwest of France, for a modest price. If you haven't been there--Brantôme, the "Venice of France", is one of the most beautiful towns in the country and a favorite of ours. You can get the details here. The house is across the street from the river but includes a small terrace on the river.
